When I first learned I would be doing my summer internship for my graduate program at UNC Charlotte, I was excited. My excitement then turned into intense nervousness and a puddle of emotions as I said my tearful goodbye to my partner, who I have not spent more than a few days apart from since our second date. I struggled the first few weeks with loneliness and homesickness. I quickly learned that being extremely extroverted while also having an anxiety disorder makes for a very weird time in a new place.
After a few weeks and lots of FaceTime, I started to come out of my shell (and my dorm, for that matter) and explored the very beautiful city of Charlotte. I’ve been in so many great shops, but Sleepy Poet Antique Mall is #1 on my list of favorite Charlotte spots. I have been both a shopper and a vendor at various antique malls and I can honestly say Sleepy Poet is the best of the best. Not one single booth in there was selling yard sale stuff, or crappy wholesale stuff. Everything was beautifully curated. I could have spent days going through it all.

Even in my cheapness, I found the pricing of most things in Sleepy Poet to be fair. They have maps available, which was very helpful. There is an entire section of vintage clothing and vintage records. There is an entire section dedicated to plaid shirts and cowboy boots. There was a good mix of booth types. Some had handmade decor, others painted furniture, some were primitive themed, some were colorful 60’s theme. The best part, no two booths were really alike, so it made looking through them all such a joy!
Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to gather the names and locations of all of these booths. I encourage you to go check it out for yourself, if given the chance. There were so many treasures!
Anyone that knows me know I NEED that gin lamp in my life. BAD.
I did not leave with any treasure, but it wasn’t really by choice. I am in temporary housing currently and living in a dorm room at UNCC. There’s not much room for beautiful antiques and gorgeous handmade creations. I cannot wait to come back to this place when J and I buy our first home. This will be my first stop!
